View Full Version : Good, simple mapping program?

Are there any good mapping programs out there? I just want to make some simple modifications to an already existing map, so if it comes down to how accessible a program is Vs. how many options it gives you, I'll take the accessibility.

Also, what's the best version of GTK Radiant to work with JK3, if there isn't another program?

well there is only GTK Radiant.. trust me, you dont WANT to use anything else

versions you can use are 1.4 and 1.5

I search for it and it just gives me Mac versions. Does that matter?

Nevermind, Chirac pwns.

If you have a mac then it doesn't matter.

of course it does..
Radiant 1.4 (http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/GTKRadiant;26097), 1.5 (http://zerowing.idsoftware.com/files/radiant/GtkRadiant-1.5.0.msi)

People always cry about 1.5 and warn against using it but back in the day when I had time to map it never gave me any trouble.

I'm a 1.5 user myself (Vista doesnt like 1.4 on my system), and aside from missing being able to select entire Func_groups at once, it's far better than 1.4 for things like texture manipulation and brush model rotations. Made putting together Star Forge a LOT easier.

who started this battle of the radiants again? i said 1.4 OR 1.5.. which one is your decision.

I use both (1.4 handles vertexes 100% better than 1.5, but 1.5 renders everything better) , can I get a cookie? ^_^

Vista hates 1.4. At least. My vista does.

im on XP, using 1.5 the majority of the time.

1.4 if i wanna make sure my patches are lined up. for some reason fails to render the extra sides of some patches, ones that do show up in 1.4. so meh

he is right, you have to change some stuff in the properties then restart your computer and it works. Dont remember exactly what though, probably run in compatibility with xp, disable visual themes and desktop composition, run as administrator, but I could be wrong so just search it.

I believe that you can edit an already existing map when you have vista in 1.4 but you cant create one with 1.4. I believe that this was the problem when normaN researched it.

indeed

Perhaps so... but to me, why bother having two programs that do the same thing if I'm only using one to start up a new map? Nah... the benefits outweigh the downsides for me. I've never had any problems working with vertexes or patchmeshes in 1.5 (in fact, I've had even fewer problems). Anyhow... yeah... if you have XP, use whichever feels better.

Except when you started trying to do terrain -.-
